Top Luxury Cars - The 2009 BMW 7-Series
New engines, a whole bunch of new tech features, and a heavily facelifted appearance make for an interesting entry in the large luxury car segment. This particular category in the automobile world is extremely competitive, with BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Audi and Infiniti constantly trying to one-up each other.
Each of the players has some tech feature innovation under its belt, like automatic parking from Lexus, lane departure warning from Infiniti and night vision from Mercedes. However, 2009's cars all have these features, and more.
It's expected that a car in this segment will have gobs of power and acceleration times previously reserved for purebred sports cars, and even the lower of the two 7-series for 2009, the 750i can go 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Handling has always set BMW apart, as with their other cars, they're able to marry ride and handling like no other brand, but unfortunately, their lead in this segment is not by all that much.
The 750i's engine is a twin-turbo V8, which BMW uses purportedly for fuel economy purposes. In real-life driving, we did actually notice a difference, getting almost 19 mpg combined, vs. 16-17 for the previous naturally-aspirated engine. It's definitely not wanting for power, especially in this type of vehicle, but I'm a little disappointed at BMW's engine sounds post-2003. They've switched up the technology a little, and while the engines are smooth and powerful, they don't sound as good as older BMW engines.
BMW has shifted its focus away a little, as they used to focus on simply well-engineered great-driving vehicles. Steering feel and engine sound used to be more important to them than it is today, but today, BMW's sales have really grown and BMW has to compete with the likes of Lexus, Audi and Infiniti.
Considering everything, the BMW is still the most fun-to-drive sedan of the group it competes in, and for that, it definitely is attractive. Interior design is also excellent, and it doesn't give up anything to the Japanese in technology either, although reliability/longevity is another thing. Still, it does a whole lot of things very well and is a solid choice - do check it out if you're looking in the segment.

Top Luxury Cars - The Car BMW and Lamborghini Built?
The BMW M1 was a car built in a soap opera environment of sorts. The problem wasn't BMW, but Lamborghini. BMW had retained the Italian exotic sports car company to design the M1. Alas, Lamborghini was having major financial problems at the time and ended up going bankrupt half way through the project. BMW was thus forced to take the car back and complete the project on its own.
These odd circumstances led to an odd car. The first M1s look more or less exactly like you might think they would if Lamborghini did half the work and then handed the car off to BMW and did not consult on the rest of the project. The car has some of the swooping designs you see with all Lamborghinis, but also some of the typical lines you see in BMW. Put together, the car looks something like...a DeLorean. To some, this is a beautiful design. To others, it is not.
The BMW M1 was sold to the public for only three years - 1978-81. The sales for this period totaled 456 cars, the smallest production line in the history of BMW. Oddly, the base engine was a 6 cylinder, with twin cams and produced a top speed in the 160 miles per hour range. Other BMW models were later given the M1 version, but they were just upgrades of the respective base production cars and not real M1s.
It must be said that the powers at BMW really liked the M1. They actually started a PRO M1 racing series that restricted teams to using just the M1 car. The series became a launching pad for Formula One drivers. The iconic Ferrari driver Niki Lauda won two PRO M1 championships and future F1 Champ Nelson Piquet won one. BMW still supports the series today although M1s long ago were phased out in exchange for 3 series cars.
Why write about a car nearly 30 years old? Well, BMW is considering updating the car and releasing a modern version. It is called the M1 Homage Concept. The car has only been seen once, but it just looks brutally wicked in a good way. The current economic environment has stopped BMW and other companies from pursuing such projects, but expect the car to get some attention when the economic situation improves. I honestly don't care for the original M1 design, but the Homage Concept looks like an absolutely beautiful and aggressive car design worth every penny of what will certainly be a very high price.

Top Luxury Cars - Audi A4 or BMW 3-Series?
Well, I wasn't big on Audis previously. I saw them as glorified Volkswagens, partly, because most of them are. No companies can be accused of platform sharing as much as VW and Audi. They use the same platform for the Jetta, Golf, GTI, Passat, Beetle, A4 and A6. They stretch it and shrink it as necessary, but it's essentially the same chassis. So you can understand why I would look at an A6 and say... I wonder if that guy knows he's driving an XL Jetta.
My opinion on Audis changed quite a bit after owning a VW GTI VR6. Even at more than 110,000 miles on the odometer, the GTI tracks straight and true, solid as ever. There's a certain solidity that all German cars have that is very addictive. It's not that they're actually better built - the reliability is actually shameful, and nothing compared to the appliance-like Japanese cars. However, the perception of the solidity is still appealing. And so Audis are appealing to drive, as I found. But so are higher-end Volkswagens, and they feel strangely similar. We'll have to look at a lot more to find out whether the Audi A4 is worth it.
In terms of driving dynamics, while the A4 is very, very good, the 3-series is downright excellent. Nothing compares to the rear-drive, 50-50 weight balance, great steering feel, engine sound and fun-to-drive nature of the 3-series for anywhere near its price. If that is the most important thing to you, your decision is clear.
Not everyone looks at driving dynamics alone though. Let's talk about styling. BMWs look good, but I consider Audis and their Bauhaus style to be at the very top of mainstream cars. It's also understood that Audi designs some of the best interiors in the business. Fit, finish, colour choice, everything is superb and looks top-notch, better than just about every competitor. If the styling and interior are most important to you, your decision is clear as well.
Since both cars are similarly sized, it comes down to value. The A4 is cheaper than the 3-series, especially in front-drive four-cylinder form, but if you're looking at the front-drive 4-cylinder A4, you should probably have a look at the Jetta too, which offers the same chassis, engine and transmission for a lot less. On the other hand, you can look at it as a cheap way of getting into an Audi (but you'll miss a lot of the experience). Thing is, when you look at a Quattro V6 A4, the prices are right in line with a 3-series, and the value proposition doesn't quite look the same when an A4 can go up twenty grand in price.
I'd say that on the lower end of the scale, the A4 is the better choice, and if you're going to spend more, go for the 3-series.

BMW X1 the Economical Sport-Utility Vehicle

BMW is leaving nothing to chance when it comes to its line of sport/utility vehicles. Unlike other manufacturers who are cutting back even abandoning this once popular and highly profitable vehicle segment, BMW is introducing its fourth line, the X1, an SUV that is smaller, lighter and much more fuel efficient than most SUVs in its class.
By adding a fourth line of SUVs, BMW is signaling that it believes that customers are still interested in a vehicle that can get the job done on the road and, if need be, be taken off the road. Based on the same platform underpinning its 1-series line of cars, the X1 will be powered by a standard 2.0L I4 gas engine paired with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. That arrangement should help the X1 break the 30 mpg highway barrier, but it could be that a similar sized diesel engine will have the greatest appeal for customers as BMW estimates that its 2.0L diesel will achieve about 45 mpg on the highway.
Rear Or All Wheel Drive Available
Available in either rear or all-wheel-drive, the X1 seats five passengers and will take over the entry level SUV market currently occupied by the X3. For its part, the BMW X3 will be moved slightly upmarket with standard trim levels raised accordingly. The X5 and X6 round out BMW's sport utility vehicle line.
Inside, the X1 will be fully equipped with the most current navigation system offered as standard equipment along with a panoramic sun roof, leather seating treatments, first class audio system and all of the usual BMW safety features including brake assist; lane departure warning; front, side and side curtain airbags; dynamic brake control; and active head restraints. Priced from the upper 30s, a fully optioned BMW X1 will retail for about $50,000 which will be about the same price as the all new Audi Q3 its chief competitor, though slightly higher than the Volkswagen Tiguan.
Styling Shared With The X3 And X5
The exterior of the X1 borrows the same styling cues used in the X3 and X5 with the hallmark long BMW hood and unmistakable bimmer front end. Customers who have already been sold on the X3 will appreciate the X1's generous size doors as well as its huge liftgate and surprisingly abundant storage area. BMW hopes to not only to bolster its conquest sales of other brands, but encourage current bimmer devotees to consider its newest and most fuel efficient SUV line. With a diesel option being made available, the X1 will appeal to both to the customer who want the practical side of a sport utility vehicle as well as the fuel efficiency of a potent, yet economical engine.
By adding the X1 to its fleet, BMW expects that this move will help it hold off Mercedes for luxury brand supremacy while offering a good option to the Q3, which is fast gaining Audi's latest offering. Competition among the German luxury brands is fierce which means that customers win as each manufacturer seeks to outdo each other in building passenger vehicles customers really want.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 Series

Each BMW has been using the usual fuel around the globe, but the global concerns, the climate change started years ago to make people start researching and developing other resources, the planet needs that, car manufacturers need to accomplish the transformation.
Hydrogen 7 is one of the BMW projects, the German car manufacturer has implemented all hydrogen technology inside is luxury vehicle, the BMW 7 Series, one of the most impressive cars not only because of the comfort, size, performance, but remember this car is also a heavyweight.
This means that in a world where hydrogen isn't available yet, at least as the usual car fuel, BMW couldn't send the car outside to the streets just using hydrogen, so this BMW Hydrogen 7 has also a combustion engine, nothing better for the driver than having that chance of deciding which fuel the car will burn, of course that the cheaper the better.
BMW Hydrogen 7 relies in a 7 Series with 12 cylinder, for those who care about speed the car will not reach all the speed that all that power car give has it's electronic limited to 230Km/h and it remains that way, whether the driver choses gasoline or hydrogen.
Fuel consumption is always a concern, this BMW can offer more than 200Km if the driver uses only hydrogen, that's probably not that much for most drivers around the globe but remember that this car must have place for a gasoline tank, which can deliver an additional 500Km, of regular driving of course.
Like the idea of driving a BMW Hydrogen car, maybe you do but the German car manufacturer isn't interested in the selling process, at least by now so this 7 Series model will not be available to the general public, BMW car will be leased to some costumers.

Were to buy best BMW and Ferrari Parts?

Are you in the market for aftermarket BMW parts? If so you may find that you have to pay quite a bit for them if you go through your regular retail suppliers. Because of the BMW name you will find that retailers are able to charge and arm and a leg for the aftermarket parts. When you assume that this is what you have to pay you'll pay any price. The fact of the matter is that there are some ways in which you might be able to save.
The first thing that you need to do is check out people that you know personally. If you belong to a car club you should talk with your associates and see if anyone has the aftermarket parts that you are in need of. You may be surprised by how many people have the things that you need and are willing to sell them to you for far less than retail, or in some cases they may even be willing to trade for something that you have that they need. This is a great way to go if you have contacts in the BMW world because you can often get a great deal!
Another option is to check auction sites. There are retailers that put many of their BMW aftermarket parts on auction sites. This allows for them to move their back stock while continuing selling for a much wider profit margin in their retail store. You can find all of the aftermarket parts for your car at a huge savings when you go this route. If you are looking for big additions such as engine parts or upgrades or exhaust systems saving can mean saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Who couldn't stand to save that much money?
Of course another option is to keep tabs on what your retailer does with their pricing. You may be able to anticipate sales and save a lot of money on the items that you want most. This may allow you to save hundreds of dollars and if you time it right you may be able to afford to buy more than one aftermarket addition to your vehicle!
All of these great ways to save are not just associated with aftermarket parts for BMW vehicles, they apply to aftermarket Ferrari parts and those associated with all makes and models of vehicles. The fact of the matter is that luxurious vehicles such as BMW and Ferrari are expensive to upgrade and being able to save on them will allow the consumer who wants to modify their vehicle to do so more affordably.

The BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 Series is one of best designs from BMW offering superb performance with better economy. It does win sales because of its looks as well. The 7 Series buyer is always proud to own it and rarely has got anything to complain about this car. It is well equipped and engineered as per 21st century driver's needs.
The BMW 7 Series is a superb car to drive thanks to its steering abilities. It features new system Integral Active Steering which sees the rear wheels turn in and out to assist the steering at lower speeds and reduce the car's turning circle.
The 7 Series is a top quality car constructed from sturdy materials. The attention to detail is to a high standard: subtle lights highlighting the door handles, the elegant flipping of the boot at the click of a button.
BMW offers a choice of four petrol engines but most buyers are expected to opt for the 231bhp 3-litre diesel engine we tested. It powers the car from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds through the six-speed automatic gearbox and can achieve a top speed of 149mph.
Acceleration is very responsive. The gear changes smoothly and power is available quickly whenever required. The petrol engines range from the 3-litre 258bhp 730i which adds 5mph to the top speed to the range-topping 6-litre 445bhp 760i which covers the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.5 seconds and boasts a top speed of 155mph.
Each model comes with a three year warranty. The Reliability Index indicates issues with the BMW 7 Series tended to crop up after around six years and would usually concern the axle, suspension and the cooling system.
The changes to the latest 7 Series include a pair of distinctive new rear lights, and the BMW's trademark kidney grilles are larger. There is a greater attention paid to making the car look huge and appear sporty rather.
Overall, BMW efforts seem to have been successful with the 7 Series.

The BMW M Series Convertible

The M6 Convertible is an expressive vehicle. Every detail speaks volumes about power, about grace and about the exhilaration of open-top driving. The spacious cabin; the wide, low body; the purposeful stance: each element radiates pure M performance. The characteristic side air vents cite the legendary BMW 507. And inside the stylish cabin, the standard M Sports seats promise uncompromising driving pleasure.
M6 convertible derives power from a standard 5.0-litre V-10 engine, which produces 507bhp @ 7750 rpm and 520 Nm of torque @6100 rpm. This convertible goes from 0-100 km per hour in 4.8 seconds and the engine performs with out any hesitation.
The interior relishes in its sport and powerful appearance with the wheel base of 2,781mm, which is the same as M6 coupe. This convertible gives an elegant and luxurious look with its most striking feature of automatic top that opens quickly and silently so that you can enjoy the experience of open air driving.
The headlights automatically dip if they detect oncoming traffic at night, the light from the reflector on a bicycle ahead, or street lights. Inside the M6 is sober, all black, with black leather seats and a carbon-fiber effect dashboard. The car has the attitude to rule the road, drive it to know it!
BMW has also set an assembly line for its 3 and 5 series. Its sports utility vehicles (SUV) X3 and X5 are imported as CBUs (Completely Built Units) route and sold at around Rs 41 Lakh to Rs 79 Lakh due to high import duty. With the new assembly line, the 3 and 5 series has seen a price drop by almost 40%. Even as it set a target of 1000 units in 2007, BMW sold 1387 units.
This year, BMW is targeting a sale of 2000 units and it has already sold 800 units. "Our expansion of dealerships across cities has fastened our pace of growth in the country," said a spokesperson for BMW. Currently BMW enjoys 9 dealerships in India.

BMW Z4 the Most Beautiful Roadster on the Road

If your desire for fun outweighs practical needs a roadster could be the car for you - with the BMW Z4 one of the most eye-catching.
The BMW Z4 is one of the more intriguing sports cars currently available. It's known for its engaging handling and steering, thrilling inline six-cylinder engine and distinctive styling. Recent improvements have made the latest Z4 the best yet, and older models are still a very viable choice for a used sports car.
You know you like a car's looks when you get out, take a look back, walk away, and take another look. The BMW Z4 is one of those cars. It combines classic roadster looks with contemporary angles to create a very good-looking car
We drove the Sports trim model featuring a satisfyingly substantial three-spoke steering wheel which is good to hold. The gear knob and handbrake are well positioned for the Z4's low-down, sporty seating position. The speedometer and rev counter are easily visible through the spokes with audio and air-controls located in the neat, uncluttered central stack.
Both seats are comfortable and do not feel cramped. Cabin-space for objects is limited with meaningful storage combined to a vertical bay between the driver and passenger and small spaces behind the front seats.
BMW Z4 car is a joy to drive in town with sharp steering and a stiff chassis putting a smile on our faces within minutes of getting in the car.
BMW offers a choice of five petrol engines to power the Z4. We drove the 150bhp 2-litre model which boasts a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds, and a top speed of 137mph.
The Z4 achieved a four star rating following EuroNCAP tests.
The BMW Z4 can hold its head high when planted next to any roadster.

The SUV BMW X6

The recipe for the BMW X6 seems quite simple, take the mechanics, size and stature of a 4x4 and then combine it with the body shell of a coupe, which is designed to seat four people. Surely however, if you have gone through the expense of buying and running a large SUV you would expect that it could carry more people than an averaged sized hatchback. Especially when Volvo XC90 does the job of carrying seven people so well.
Nevertheless BMW believe that the X6 offers the latest evolution in sports utility vehicles combining dynamic excellence with driver enjoyment, and designed to take on rivals in the form of the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and Mercedes ML63. However with uncertain petrol prices, high running costs and growing public antipathy towards large 4x4's many previous SUV owners are returning to more humble hatchbacks and saloons.
Inside the BMW X6, the driver is still afforded the lofty driving position that would be recognised by any 4x4 owner, however it is the performance and handling that provides the biggest surprise. Underneath the bonnet is a 4.4 litre V8 engine, which produces 400 bhp and is able to propel this giant of car to 60 in 5.4 seconds.
The BMW X6 comes with an 8 speed automatic that can be controlled by paddles on the steering wheel should you feel the need to make the gear changes yourself. However its BMW's Dynamic Performance Control software that really allows this SUV to shine. The DPC senses the power and grip available to each wheel, and so when one starts to slip, power is automatically transferred to another wheel that has more grip.
From the outside the BMW X6 is certainly an imposing sight with its large 20 inch alloy wheels, powerful xenon headlights, and sleek coupe style body. This is a vehicle sure to stand out on the road, especially when you consider it is wider and longer than the more conventional BMW X5.
There is no getting around the fact that the BMW X6 is a very large 4x4, that will dwarf most vehicles on the road, and perhaps will not be the most subtle way to travel in the current troubled economic climate. However it is also true to say that BMW has introduced a new type of 4x4 and created a stylish and smart looking vehicle, that despite its size and weight handles and looks more like the four door coupe that it was designed around than a standard SUV.
